Natalie Wakeling – Embody Denim - Stand 2518
Natalie Wakeling was one of the first Australian plus-size models to succeed internationally. New York’s elite Ford agency represented her and her modeling career spanned a decade. So how big are we talking about?“Size 14 and it caused quite a few grumbles from designers,” says the curvaceous beauty whose dimensions may be the Australian average, but don’t conform to the rail-thin catwalk ideal.
Neither do those of most women which is why, in mid-2006, Natalie launched her label Embody Denim after discovering that unlike Australia, New York offered plenty of great designer jeans for bodies of every shape and size.Filling the gap in the market at home has proved richly satisfying for the mother of two whose trendy Size 8-26 ranges now sell nationwide as well as in New Zealand. “I’ve worn my fair share of unflattering jeans and felt I could offer something special that would make fashion-starved women feel great.”
With expert styling, quality fabrics and a dozen flattering jeans styles, plus a jacket, skirt and leather belts, Embody Denim has established its fashion credentials. The label now features regularly in leading magazines such as Cleo and Cosmopolitan, and is poised to hit the US market.
“We now have a California-based distributor,” says Natalie. She is currently developing a body basics range and carries an exclusive range of Eberhardt fashion jewellery.
