Gisu Mobarhani – Gisu – Stand 3450

Gisu_01_SS_for_webThe name of the label, like that of the designer, is an old Persian one that roughly means “long-haired beauty”.

Gisu Mobarhani lives up to her poetic name. The 25-year-old from Wollongong is also making her mark as a vibrant, versatile young talent who has caught wide attention from buyers and the media.

Born into a family which manufactured bridal wear and tailored suits, a career in fashion seemed obvious for the young designer who already had determined ideas about her clothes at age three and as a teenager, surreptitiously sketched clothes during maths classes.

Gisu___Pic_for_webInstead she enrolled at the University of Wollongong for a business degree with a major in marketing. Her parents were thrilled. Not so the reluctant student.

“It wasn’t me, so I dropped out and turned to fashion. It’s what I really wanted to do and I give it my all. Colour inspires me most. It can come from anything that catches my eye – even the colour of a cocktail drink.”

Since she launched her label in 2006, Gisu has exhibited at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week and won a coast-to-coast following for her chic clothes – young and contemporary for day, and classic glamour for evening.

It should prove a winning formula at Fashion Exposed. “I’ll be showing military-look daywear and very sexy evening pieces,” reveals Gisu. “I love party dresses.”
