Perth’s Samantha Hegerty and Sascha Bartley - both 28 – have been friends since they left high school. They’re also seasoned globetrotters and worked in sales in the fashion industry before becoming designers – in a nutshell, kindred spirits.
“Both of us travelled widely and met up in Turkey, London and Bali,” says Sam. “We decided to create Two Birds when we realised we could do so much more by bringing our skills together.
“We launched our debut collection in March 2009 and were thrilled by its success. As a result, we’ve just about exhausted the WA market. Two Birds is now in 15 stores and we hope to get a good response from the eastern States at Fashion Exposed – our first time at the fair.”
Not surprisingly, Sam and Sascha’s wanderlust has been a powerful influence and their Spring-Summer 2010/11 collection, Tricycles and Bicycles, reflects ample romance and exoticism, along with a tribute to the ‘60s.
Flowing dresses dominate the feminine silk and cotton range that includes tops, camis, shorts and pants, and there’s lots of decorative detail via lace, crochet and embroidery. Colours are dreamy – aqua, peach, blush and sky blue – and exclusive prints have themes as diverse as rainbows and leopards.
Completing the latest collection from the label that has entranced Perth, are leather vests and handbags.
